Personally, I know 4 words I like better. Back to school shopping. Yeah yeah, sure, of course for the kids. But mostly for me!

My oldest started kindergarten this week, and that comes with an amazing flood of emotions as my OG baby grows up too quickly. But it also comes with the profound pressure of meeting a new community for the first time, one that will be the circle of our existence for years to come. The pressure of making the first impression that I want to is intimidating, and there’s really only one thing to do about it. Start shopping.

Armed and ready with the fantastic confidence that comes with loving your look, you will be more than ready for the new school year! And hey, maybe your kid will pick up your enthusiastic confidence to replace new school year jitters too :)

From the moment I saw Reese Witherspoon’s immaculate school drop-off outfits on Big Little Lies, I knew that this garden party-ready style was my calling. The way I look at it, if I dress like I’ve got it together, I can fool them for at least a little bit? Right???

This Ain’t My First Rodeo

You could do a school drop off in your sleep- the seasoned upperclassman so to speak. Keep it simple is your mantra, and in doing so you look like the coolest person in the room. Back to school is effortless for you- or at least you want to look like it is!

Go for denim with interest, such as strategically distressed or dramatic wide legs- paired with non-basic basics. A simple flowy black maxi with cool shades is another cool-mom-go-to that you can wear on repeat.

Love to Stay & Chat But I’ve Got a Meeting at 9

Seeing your kids off is clearly the most important, but that meeting you’re driving at work is kind of important too. You will be bouncing right off to the office after some serious hugs, kisses, and well wishes!

Keeping your look within the same color family looks both professional and super stylish. Pair a chic top (the sweater vest is my favorite trend of the season!) with sharp wide leg trousers or pretty culottes, or try an easy shirt dress for approachable professional style.

Still Deciding Between Starbucks or Yoga

You have a morning without the kids after a wonderful but long summer, and you’re here to enjoy some overdue me-time. Maybe thinking about getting in some yoga (maybe), or perhaps you just want to be comfortable while you stroll with your latte. Either way, athleisure is having an extended moment, and stylish outfit options are plentiful and mom life friendly.

Embrace the logo. Purposeful and well placed, athletic logos no doubt about it feel cool. Matching jogger sets are also just as cool as they are comfortable. Keeping your colors neutral and coordinated help a look from tripping into sloppy. Pair with classic sneakers and a denim or leather jacket to make your look more athleisure than athletic.
