Fashionable Italia: Top Looks from Rome Street Style
My suitcase reflected a dreamy Tuscan vacation. I packed piles of romantic and dreamy dresses. I looked every part the inspired fashionista in Tuscany via the lens of an American tourist (I mean, we’re being real here!).
Forgotten in my Italian wardrobe vision was the brief time I’d be traipsing around in Rome, and I was definitely not adequately prepared for the coolness of that city. The girls were current, hip, and had all gotten the same memo on what was “in”. Admittedly there were some outfits that I felt aged out of, but many of the outfits were not only doable, but comfortable and practical for mom life.
Here are the top fashion looks from the Rome streets that I will be adding to my wardrobe immediately!
Flirty Mini Dresses with Leather Jackets
A flash of legs and a leather jacket… where ya headed, you sexy thing?
Styling Tip: While not exclusive, Red was the dominating color of choice for the girly mini dresses. Pairing with sneakers was a total must to make this look mod!
Tan & Black
The chic color combo was everywhere, both in polished sophisticated and cool casual outfits. The pairing instantly elevates an outfit!
Styling Tip: Keep it head to toe to maximize the look, including accessories and footwear! Gold toned jewelry and hardware compliment tan best.
Delicate Camis
Understated yet provocative, silky strappy camisoles felt like street lingerie (in the best most acceptable way possible!)
Styling Tip: Dress up the simplest camisole and pair of straight jeans with fine leather accessories & footwear for a polished yet no brain energy required outfit.
Maxi Skirts with Knotted Tees
Body skimming but relaxed for those days you want to look feminine but aren’t really feeling the body-con looks (aka everyday for me!)
Styling Tip: Since the look is overall very relaxed, pair with flat leather sandals for footwear that respects the vibe but avoids looking sloppy.
Mom Fit Shorts with Feminine Tops
Mom fit: Not cheek baring or stuck to your skin, with a clean rolled grown-up hem- yes please and thank you. These informal yet flattering shorts were worn with feminine tops offering flirty details like smocking, wispy fabrics, and ruffled hems to pretty up the outfit.
Styling Tip: . For the bottoms it’s all about the high waist, so make sure tops are short enough or can be tucked in.
Wide Leg Trousers
Airy dramatic trousers hollered sophisticated chic. Pants might not be your go to for summer, but the right fabric in a wide leg silhouette could easily be the most comfortable warm weather option of all!
Styling Tip: Pair with fitted tanks that can be tucked in or meet at (or above) the hem for the full effect of the trouser, and for the most flattering look!
Sneaker Mania
I could easily have called this converse & chunky white sneaker mania if I felt like being specific. Bottom line is, old school sneaker comfort is in, and you can wear sneakers with everything.
Styling tip: The less the outfit shoe combo makes sense, the cooler you’re looking. Color choices were heavily white with a smattering of black, and high tops, low tops, platforms and flats are all fair game.
Leather Sandals
If they weren’t sneakers, they were super strappy leather sandals. It was all about flats on those ancient cobblestone streets, and low to no heels are always okay with me!
Styling Tip: Strappy leather sandals were the footwear of choice for more tailored chic outfit ensembles.
